A Message From Hillary, and My Reply

Dear :

As New York State enters the 2006 Hurricane Season, it is more important than ever for individuals and families in New York City , Long Island and across the state to be informed and prepared for a natural disaster. Many of my constituents have expressed their questions and concerns about what they should do, who they should contact, and where they should go in the event of a hurricane that threatens New York State .

In order to help explain the challenges confronting New Yorkers in the upcoming hurricane season, my office has created a Hurricane Preparedness Guide. Please click on this link , http://clinton.senate.go v /docum e nts/news/HurricaneGuide.pdf , to access an electronic version of the guide. Paper copies will be distributed to local community centers in the near future, but if you would like a copy now, please call my New York City Office at (212) 688-6262 or my Long Island Office at (631) 249-2825.

The purpose of this guide is to provide an up-to-date resource on how to prepare for and respond to a hurricane. Inside, you will find important contact information for federal, state and local government agencies and organizations such as the Red Cross; a checklist of essential items and safety measures; guidance for those with medical issues, pets and other special needs; and specific evacuation and shelter information for Nassau County, Suffolk County and all five boroughs of New York City.

Thank you for your interest in preparation.

Sincerely yours,

Hillary Rodham Clinton

My Reply:

The hurricane, dear Senator Clinton, is here. Oil is up to eighty dollars a barrel. Our country is on the brink of bankruptcy. Right wing zealots have led our country into a horrible no-win war. The Patriot Act has taken away our rights as citizens. Please do not give me instructions on how to prepare for a natural occurrence. I can prepare myself for that without your instruction or aid.
Your party ('twas my party) has utterly failed to stop this powerful political hurricane as it blasted us all out of our democratic rights as citizens. Your voices have been weak and powerless, and you have utterly wasted your powers on spineless messages to the powerful. For the last two presidential elections, I've waited to hear the murmurs of the people amplified through the eloquence of the Democratic Party. Instead I have heard whispers from the likes of Joseph Lieberman, whose affection for our tormentors continues.
Until you all fight back and fight hard against this maelstrom, our country will never be prepared, and will never be safe.
